About the Centre

Neil Britton, head surf instructor and owner of Fin McCool's, comes from a family of surfing pioneers in Ireland. His grandmother, Mrs B bought a surfboard from some travelling surfers in the 1960's as a facility for the guests in her hotel, unaware that surfing would become an obsession for her sons and grandchildren. As with many of the Britton family, Neil has surfed on the Irish team and has judged surf contests internationally. In all his years travelling the world as a surfer, Neil has never seen a beach more ideal for a surf school.
 
It is not unusual for up to 6 members of the Britton Family to be instructing at the School. At any one time you could have 2008 Irish Senior Champion John ‘JB’ Britton taking the kids out for a lesson or
Fin McCools Surf School provides lessons for all standards of surfers and runs daily Kids Surf Camps during the summer months. The surf school is fully approved and insured by the Irish Surfing Association and the shop is stocked with most leading brands and items.

Courses

Lessons cost €35 for adults and €25 for kids (from 8 years old up to and including 16 years old).

Each class is 2 hours long, 90 minutes of which is spent in the water. Wetsuits and Surfboards are provided along with one of our fully qualified Irish Surfing Association Surf Coaches who will patiently take you through the complete surf experience. You will learn about water safety, ocean awareness and wave conditions. On arriving at the beach, a 10 minute land drill takes place. This includes some safety as well as a land tutorial on how to catch waves and stand up on a wave. Once the land drill is done, together with the instructor, everybody enters the water where the fun begins. The water part of each lesson lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, during which your instructor will aim to initially get you standing on your surfboard and then gradually improve all aspects of your surfing.
