Ronaldo will welcome boo boys

With the world cup fading into a distant memory we would rather forget, the prospect of a new season is just 10 days away. A week on Saturday at 3pm: Sven’s Tactics, Cristiano’s Wink, Zidanes head-butt, Graham Pole’s 3 yellow cards and a suggesting dart-board will all be a thing of the past, well for most anyway.

Many opposing fans will be preparing a reception that will mirror the hostile images that awaited David Beckham almost eight years ago. Fake hangings, coin throwing and crowd jeering is now an unfortunate part of British football. But like all Manchester United villains there is an unveiling opportunity to prosper as a football legend.

If the Portuguese winger honours the rest of his contract he will have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Old Trafford greats David Beckham and Eric Cantona, who’s brilliance silenced away fans all across the country.

Supporters nationwide are on standby to express their hatred towards Cristiano Ronaldo, who played a controversial part in Rooney’s sending off at this summer’s world cup. Many believe the young showboating midfielder swayed the referee’s decision to give Wayne Rooney the red card.

Wazzas recent autobiography ‘My Story So Far’ claims there was never any unrest between the players after the game. Wayne claims: ‘I sent a text to Ronny. I told him to forget about what happened.

I wasn’t blaming him for interfering. Then I wished him and Portugal good luck in the semis and hoped they got to the final. And I meant it’.

After months of debating and controversy surrounding the player’s future, Ronaldo can start concentrating on putting and an end product onto the unquestionable skill that he possesses. This will be Ronny’s fourth season as a Red Devil, making it time for the silky superstar to deliver consistent performances.

Recent events will ask Ronaldo to mature sooner rather than later. With new signing Michael Carrick out for three weeks due to an ankle injury, and Alan Smith still not back to full fitness. Sir Alex Ferguson will now be looking for Ronaldo to ensure a superior start to the season if the Worthington Cup holders will get any closer to the seemingly flawless Chelsea.

There is no doubt that Cristiano will thrive on the extra attention thrown on his very move. After his reception against France in the semi finals he said he was “pleased” by the vitriolic reaction to his every touch on the ball. However, past incidents have shown crowd attention can backfire on the wingers’ game.

Against a venomous AC Milan crowd Ronaldo tried to prove himself be taking on the whole team playing individually to the annoyance of his team mates. This performance led to United loosing 2-0 on aggregate resulting in an early champions league exit in March.

As Cristiano visits football dens across Britain fans will be itching to express their frustration using him as a scapegoat for what can only be described as World Cup misery. Even footballers such as Frank Lampard and Alan Shearer have shown their disapproval over the fiasco, which has dominated the media over this slow closed season.

The Portuguese star can echo the brilliance of past target men who are now referred to as golden balls and Eric the king. However to do this, consistent performances are a must. Chelsea have raised the bar making it imperative for United to start their campaign aggressively, and Ronaldo will be key to their start.

Manchester United start their campaign at home against Fulham a week on Sunday. A successful campaign will heavily rely on Cristiano’s temperament and character to deal with the boo boy’s. If he can overcome this mental challenge the Premiership may witness another united villain who will only be remembered for their superiority on the pitch.
